Spring Nuts & Channel Nuts
The Dale Company manufactures and stocks spring nuts, also called strut nuts or channel nuts, for strut channel framing systems. They are made to meet ASTM A108 or ASTM A36 standards and are available in zinc plated, hot-dip galvanized, and 316 stainless steel finishes. Common Uses for Spring Nuts and Strut Nuts
Spring nuts and strut nuts connect fittings, clamps, and threaded rod to strut channel across commercial, industrial, and data center construction. The right nut depends on the bolt size, the environment, and the load the connection carries.
Cable Tray and Conduit Support
Cable tray, conduit, and electrical raceways commonly hang from or mount to strut channel. A spring nut slides to any point along the run and stays put, so installers can set the spacing across the layout first and tighten the hardware once everything is lined up.
Suspended Runs With Threaded Rod
Pipe, conduit, and tray runs that hang from the ceiling use threaded rod secured to the channel by a spring nut. Our all thread rod is available in standard lengths with custom cutting, so rod, nuts, and channel hardware can ship together.
Fitting and Equipment Mounting
Electrical panels, junction boxes, and pipe clamps bolt to the channel through a spring nut. A washer under the bolt head spreads the clamping load, and our square channel washers come in hot-dip galvanized and stainless steel to match the nut finish.

FAQs
What is the difference between a spring nut and a strut nut?
“Strut nut” and “channel nut” are general terms for any nut that fits strut channel. A spring nut is the version with a coil spring underneath, which keeps the nut in position inside the channel while you align the fitting and start the bolt. Nuts without a spring have to be held in place by hand. We supply spring nuts.
How do you install a spring nut in strut channel?
Press the nut into the channel opening with the spring side down, then give it a quarter turn so the grooved edges seat against the channel lips. The spring holds it there while you position the fitting and start the bolt. Tightening the bolt drives the teeth into the channel and locks the nut in place.
Which spring nut size and finish do I need?
Match the thread size to the bolt or rod you are using, from 10-24 up to 1/2-13. For finish, choose zinc plated for dry indoor work, hot-dip galvanized for outdoor or damp areas, and 316 stainless steel for chemical, washdown, or coastal exposure. If you are unsure, send us your specifications and we will help match them.
